relations, foreign and security politics of the EU

Description of the module: At the lectures
the Union’s international relations are discussed, the
emergence of the common foreign and security politics, its legal
foundations. The internal conflicts between the member states are
touched upon as well. Immigration, movement of persons, settling
down, refugee issues and political asylum are also included in the
studies, Other topics dealt with: the Union’s relations with
international organizations (UN, OECD, NATO etc.), the effects of the
Schengen Treaty on security politics, the connection between the
Union and the USA, Japan and the new economic powers of the Far East,
the Lomé Treaty, the connections with the Caribbean, Africa,
South America and the Pacific, the successes and failures of the
Union in the Middle East. Foreign relations of the member states with
each other within the Union, connections with other institutions of
integration (Western European Union, Council of Europe etc), and the
effects enlargement on foreign policy. The history of the division of
Europe, the relationship of the Union (formerly Community) with the
USSR and Comecon, the effects of the change of the political system,
the debates and discussions concerning the enlargement of the Union.
