1. General and specific objectives of the course

Hungary is expected to be a member of the EU in a few years. We are now in advanced negotiations with the Union, and it seems that one of the most difficult chapter of discussions is agriculture. Knowing the agricultural policy, the level of agricultural development of the EU is indispensable. Thus they will be able to compare it with the situation of Hungarian agriculture, the possibilities and things to do.

2. Contents of the course

I. The agricultural system of the EU, the conditions and circumstances of agericultural production II. The Common Agricultural Politics. Attempts to reform CAP in the 1980–90s. The reformation of international agricultural system — the GATT. The 1992 reform of CAP. The agricultural support system of the EU. Agricultural qualification system of the EU. The essence and expected results of AGENDA 2000. Hungarian–EU agricultural trade. Hungarian agriculture before the accession.
