1. General and specific objectives of the course
            
The general objective of the course is to introduce students into the emergence, enlargement and present situation, as well as the internal and external relations of the EU. The special objective is showing students the process of enlargement of the EU with central European countries, and within the process, the situation and international relations of Hungary.
            
2. Contents of the course
            
International circumstances of the creation of the EU, the cooperation internal and legislative cooperation – defined as ”the third pillar,” – with special attention to the Schengen Treaty and its international effects. A great emphasis is placed on foreign policy of the individual member states within and outside the Union. The conditions and circumstances of eastern enlargement of the Union is studied in detail. Similarly, the role of the Union in international crises, conflicts, and in international organizations. Finally, the institutions and organizations of EU foreign policy, their structure and functions are studied. Attention is also paid to Hungary’s expected problems in connection with the accession.
