1. General and specific objectives of the course

To show students the history and institutionalization of the economic integration of Western Europe. To show facts, interrelations and data about the functions of the Common Market and the European Economic Communities.

2. Contents of the course

The emergence of the modern economic system in the world, theories of ecconomic systems. The Europe-policy of the USA after WW II. The aftermath of the war in Western Europe. The reasons and consequences of the American plan of reconstruction (Marshall Aid). Establishing the OEEC (1948) and its operation. Institutionalization of economic integration, establishment of the Montanunion. The Treaty of Rome, and the European Economic Community. The Common Market before 1967. The institutions of the Europeann Economic Communities before 1992. The Common Agricultural Policy of the EEC. The effects of the oil crisis on the EEC. The emrgence of the common internal market, the process of creating the monetary union from the initial steps to the introduction of Euro.
