        1. General and specific objectives of the course


        To teach students about a special field of international relations, expected to be highly important in the 21st century, that is, Hungarian and international cultural diplomacy.

        To show studennts the peculiarities of cultural diplomacy and to point out the special features that made this field so important for Hungary and made it a successful area of international relations.


        2. Contents of the course


        The purpose is showing students the emergence and functions of cultural diplomacy, the institutions of Hungarian cultural diplomacy, the cultural diplomatic endeavours of Horthy’s Regency. Cultural diplomacy following WW II is subject to detailed scrutiny. In that period a lot was expcted from this field of international relations. The cold war narrowed down the possibilities in this area, but special attention is focused on the age détente. Some of the effects that might influence cultural diplomacy in the 21st century are also included in the observations.
